Inspiring Family New Year's Resolutions

GREAT IDEAS FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY
Most of us see the start of a New Year and the task of choosing our resolutions something that we do individually but does anyone ever consider how effective it would be to include your family and children into the plan as well ??
Deciding on our own goals for the year doesn’t have to be just about our careers or income. Family, health and relationships all play an important part as well. New Year’s Resolutions are a great time to come together and set some family goals for the upcoming year. What the New Year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year.  Here are some great ideas to get you started:
Weekly Family Game Nite!
From my experience with my own 2 children, (now adults) having a regular, family game nite is the best thing we’ve ever decided to do as a family, and have been doing so for many, many years. It can become a great tradition & habit that strengthens the family unit, and the sooner you start the better it becomes.
Not only does it ensure valuable time for connecting with each other but it also gets your kids in the habit of communicating with you – something that I have found will pay off when they are older.
Choose Healthier Food Choices Together
A New Year’s Resolution for all family members should include a better way to eat properly, to maintain a richer, healthier and happier life. Any parent not only wants to instill good eating habits in their kids but also should want to be a good role model making sure they are eating well themselves.. It all starts at home.
Outdoor Activities
Statistics have proven that 90% of our best childhood memories take place outdoors. Examine this with your own childhood. Activities such as camping, hiking, boating, swimming, or even enjoying family events in your own backyard have fond, special memories. Make a commitment to get outside more often.
Being a Grateful Family
If your kids see that you as the parents are grateful and appreciative of your life, your health, your relationships then it’s a given that the kids will create this habit as well. How we view life as the role model is the best single trait we can provide for our own family members as well.
Record Family Memories
There are countless important gifts a parent can give to their children, creating family memories is definitely one of them. Record family scrapbooks, pictures, videos and keep them in a library to always have close by. It is the family history that sometimes gets forgotten over the years…. Keep a journal so the kids can remember this and pass it on to their own children.
Plan an Adventure
It is very easy to get caught up in the trap of losing ourselves in front of the TV most weekends. Think seriously about how you want to spend your downtime. Plan weekends, evenings and vacations beforehand so the time spent together can be an opportunity for a planned, productive, fun adventure.
Read Together More Often
Many studies have been done regarding when a childs reading interest starts to decline. It usually occurs in the 4thgrade which is interesting because most often that is when parents stop reading to their kids. Make a concerted effort this year to read more often to your children and inevitably you will have created a rewarding habit to do so more yourself.
Enjoy a prosperous, happy & productive year with your family!
