I LOVE this time of year because that’s when I get to sit down, put my feet up and reflect on my life and start making brand new goals for myself! I do this every single year.   However, for the majority of people statistics show that most New Year’s resolutions are abandoned within the first few weeks.

The reasons for this are many—lack of clarity, unrealistic expectations, or simply not having the right mindset to follow through. What begins as a hopeful promise to oneself can easily fade into frustration when immediate results don't appear or when the initial motivation dwindles. 

Real long-lasting change and the decision to embark on a journey of transformation is a process.  People don’t suddenly wake up and spring out of bed with a whole new lease on life. It takes time and a deep desire to make those changes.

Here are a few questions you can ask yourself:

  1. Look back on a previous year, what areas do you want to improve on? 
  2. What brings you the most joy?
  3. What does success look like for you in the upcoming year?

To truly transform your resolutions into achievements, it’s essential to set clear, realistic, and measurable goals. Instead of aiming for drastic changes, break your larger goals into smaller, manageable steps that can be accomplished over time.

For example, instead of committing to "lose 30 pounds" right away, set a goal to "exercise three times a week" or "cut down on sugar" in manageable increments. This shifts the focus from overwhelming expectations to daily progress, allowing you to build momentum and stay motivated, even when challenges arise.

A powerful way to ensure success is to adopt a growth mindset. Acknowledge that setbacks are not failures, but opportunities to improve. When you encounter obstacles, instead of giving up, ask yourself what you can learn from the experience, and get OUT of your comfort zone.

Surround yourself with a supportive community or seek guidance from a mentor, as accountability can significantly boost your chances of success. With patience, persistence, and the right strategies in place, your 2025 New Year’s resolutions can evolve into meaningful goals, paving the way for long-lasting change.
