Nurturing Self Care: Achieve Total Wellness for Men & Women

In today’s fast-paced world, maintaining balance and well-being is more essential than ever. The foundation of true self-care lies in nourishing three trifecta key areas:

MIND, BODY, & SOUL

Taking care of yourself is essential for success, regardless of gender. While men may struggle with self-care due to societal expectations, engaging in a self care regiment is not a weakness—it’s a sign of strength. Many self-care practices embraced by women are just as beneficial for men, but are often overlooked.

Many of my male clients are high achievers juggling demanding careers with ongoing daily pressures but still strive to maintain balance with their family obligations. 

Women have a tendency to put themselves last, regardless if you are an executive, mother, or caregiver.  From my own experience trying to be the best for everyone isnt all that easy.  Plus, we all need to recognize that self-care is not selfish or an indulgence, it’s a necessity to living a well-rounded, happy life. 

Self-care involves consciously prioritizing activities that promote well-being, encompassing physical, mental, and emotional needs essential to enjoying an overall quality of life. It’s about recognizing your needs and taking proactive steps to meet them.

 

 So, Why aren’t more people incorporating these self care practices into their daily lives? 

Because typically people are not conditioned to take care of themselves or feel they are worthy. 

After 40 years of studying personal development, understanding mindset and how our thoughts shape our reality, I can tell you that the disciplined self-care routine I’ve built over the years has made a huge difference in my life.

My success, health, and positive mindset are a direct result of my commitment to self-care.

Let me take you back to when I was a teenager. While at school I worked at a store cosmetic counter when the Personnel Manager asked me to model in an upcoming fashion show. It was an honor to be selected, and I remember it vividly—it was the year Elvis Presley passed away, and we held an emotional tribute for him during the show. 

So, you will know how long ago that was. This picture is from my modelling portfolio when I was young. 😊

That moment marked the beginning of my modelling career.

I worked as a professional model for many jobs; runway, newspaper ads, tv commercials and film work.  This lead to furthering my career as a Fashion Show Co-ordinator running events in shopping malls and landing a job at CHCH-TV working on the set of a childrens talent show called:  Tiny Talent Time, syndicated for over 40 years.  You see, maintaining discipline in self-care became essential and non-negotiable for me, otherwise I’d be unemployed. 

It wasn’t just about looking good—it was about feeling good, inside and out.

I began teaching Self-Improvement classes at a Modelling Studio owned by Blair Lancaster, who won the Miss Canada pageant in 1974. She was an inspiring role model for me and her teachings shaped my approach to holistic wellness, which I have carried thru my entire life, self care tips I now teach my own daughter.  

Today, I can honestly say that my positive mindset and strict self-care routine has helped me maintain my health and youthful appearance well into my later years. That’s why I’m passionate about sharing these self-care concepts with you as these habits have helped me sustain my energy, build confidence and create a positive self image for years to come.
